The praia de ("beach of") Itapoan is the beginning of hundreds of miles of palm-lined beaches running north up Bahia's Miracle Coast. These beaches vary from isolated tropicalia to barraca ("cabana")-filled stretches where food and drinks (and music) are served. The Farol ("Lighthouse") de Itapoan can be seen in the distance here.

The beach offers plenty of opportunities to escape the tropical sun. Simpler establishments like this one usually specialize in drinks and seafood.

Acarajés stuffed with shrimp and spread with condiments prepared from coconut, hot peppers, and dendé are another possibility on the beach. They're great washed down with ice-cold beer or coca-cola.
