SALVADOR'S PLANO INCLINADO
The plano was built in 1874, first running on steam and then electrified in the early part of the twentieth century. Two cabins each move alternatingly up and down the two tracks.
The plano is situated behind the Catedral Basílica (that's the side of the Catedral to the right in the photo above), which itself gives onto the Terreiro de Jesus. Access to the plano is from Praça da Sé in the direction the woman in pink is walking (that's the corner of Praça da Sé directly in front; the oft-broken fountain is just to the left). Fare, fifteen centavos. |
